ABOUT

Abidjan, on the Atlantic coast, is the country's main urban centre. It was the country's administrative and political capital until 1983, when the capital was transferred to Yamoussoukro. It comprises the ten communes (Abobo, Adjamé, Attécoubé, Cocody, Koumassi, Le Plateau, Marcory, Port-Bouët, Treichville and Yopougon) of the former city of Abidjan (422 km2) and four outlying sub-prefectures (Anyama, Bingerville, Songon and Brofodoumé), which were once rural and are now part of the urban sprawl of Abidjan. It is the most densely populated city in West Africa, and therefore has great consumer potential.
